Writing for Story: Summer Creative Writing Class

What’s the best way to tell your story? My summer Creative Writing class, “Writing for Story: How to Recognize, Organize and Write Narratives” will help you discover it. This course will demonstrate how to heighten conflict and resolution in fiction and nonfiction, greatly enhancing the readability and publishability of the finished piece. You’ll receive detailed, constructive criticism of your fictional and nonfictional stories and book chapters. In addition, we’ll discuss dramatic scenes, outlines, cover letters, and other topics of interest to you.

  • 150-word story idea or book concept statement.
  • 250-word in medias res scene.
  • 25-word outline of your story.
  • 1500- to 2500-word story or book chapter.
  • Revision of story or book chapter.
  • 5-minute reading of story or chapter.

The course will run June 12, 19, 26, July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. Pacific time via Zoom teleconference with an in-person option for some of those dates.
