Writing classes can help you put down what really happened with detail, deftness and precision. A good writing class provides the encouragement, skillful guidance, and sound, practical advice to master the craft of writing. Otherwise, writers can flounder for years, repeating mistakes over and over again, turning what should be a rewarding and enlightening activity into an exercise in frustration.

Experienced authors can benefit from the structure a writing class provides to perfect and extend their technique. The Writer’s Workshop offers a variety of writing courses and online writing tutorials to meet the needs of a wide range of writers. Let me know if you have questions about the right class for you. I look forward to hearing from you!

Yours,

Seattle Writing Classes

Good Shepherd CenterMy Seattle writing classes will help you develop your own habit of art, mastering the craft of narrative writing essential to creating fiction and nonfiction stories. Each quarter I offer a Seattle-based writing class in narrative writing for creative nonfiction and fiction. The emphasis varies from writing class to writing class, but all of the courses provide detailed, constructive criticism of your stories and book chapters.  The four writing classes form a sequence, introducing you to all the essential elements of creative nonfiction and fiction writing: dramatic scenes, scene by scene construction, character sketches, research and interviewing, first and third person point of view, story ideas, dramatic outlines and publishing strategies. You can start with any of the classes and the complete sequence gives you a comprehensive introduction to the art and craft of narrative writing. You’ll learn more about the craft of writing than you would in most MFA programs, at a fraction of the cost. Learn more about our Seattle Writing Classes.

Online Writing Classes

Online Writing ClassesAn online writing course can help you land a job in the writing world. It can speed your path toward publication. It can increase your chances of acceptance at an MFA or other program. But as much as online writing courses are about professional development, they are also about personal transformation. Online writing classes allow students to achieve their dreams, whether that’s seeing their story in The New Yorker or writing about love and transformation in the Internet age. Writing 101 is a good place to start if you are just getting back into writing. Introduction to Nonfiction or Introduction to Fiction are logical next steps. Then you can branch off into fiction, nonfiction, young adult writing, poetry writing, novel writing and nature writing. Click on highlighted text to learn more.
